Applications to be a team member are due March 15th. Instructions are listed below:

If you are interested in competing on the iGEM team this summer, you are required to submit an application to ubcigem@gmail.com by Monday, March 15You must include the following information, all of which will be considered by a committee of faculty members and former iGEM team members who are involved in the iGEM team.

    1. An unofficial transcript giving your marks for all undergraduate coursework.
    2. A CV including extra-curricular activities, both science-related (lab work) and science-unrelated.
    3. How much time you will dedicate to the iGEM team this summer (in hours/week).  Assume you will not get paid for your time.
    4. A self-ranking of your expertise in each of three areas:  1)  laboratory skills, 2) computer modeling/math, 3) ethics/science and society, and an indication of which of these tracks you would prefer to focus on during the summer.  These will be used to asses your fit within the team and to balance the team in its expertise.

In addition, we will take into consideration your past attendance at general iGEM meetings and attendance/presentation at iGEM journal club meetings.

We will award each applicant a score consisting of an average of rankings from each committee member on scale from 0-10.  We will consider undergraduate students and masters students separately, so as not to give more advanced students an unfair advantage.  The top scoring applicants will be chosen as the iGEM team members who will be registered for the competition and who will travel to the Jamboree.

We will take research contributions from as many students as want to give them during the summer, but only the top students will be able to attend the conference unless our finances improve.

The top 2 students on the team will be paid positions, and others will be paid based on our future finances.  If you know someone who should be participating, you might mention this to them.  However, the most committed students will receive higher scores than those who apply without having been involved previously.

If you have questions about the application process, please direct them to Dr. Eric Lagally at lagally@msl.ubc.ca

The same information can be found in the following PDF file: 2010 UBC iGEM Team Application Instructions. As alluded to in the post, stipends for students are based on available funding. If you know of sponsors, you can bring this sponsorship information package to them: UBC iGEM Sponsor Information Package
